Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is one of my absolute favs! Most of our physical ailments come from our shoulders and hips.

The Hips

These muscles are one of the strongest muscles in the body. While the most hard working muscle in the body is the heart, the largest muscle is gluteus maximus. It's very powerful because it keeps the body trunk in an erect posture. Also, it's the body's antigravity muscle, which is vital when you climb upstairs. They help strengthen your core, and help to support a range of compound movements and exercises. Strong glute muscles also help prevent and avoid muscle imbalances that can lead to mobility issues. And because they are used for so much activity during our day, they do require some self care help. This is where Yin Yoga comes in. In just a 30 minute session, you can relieve all the tension of a days work! AND, feel so much better. Here is one of my favorite videos: Yoga with Kassandra

The Shoulders

The human shoulder is made up of three bones: the clavicle (collarbone), the scapula (shoulder blade), and the humerus (upper arm bone) as well as associated muscles, ligaments and tendons. The shoulder joint is the main joint of the shoulder. It allows the arm to rotate in a circular fashion or to hinge out and up away from the body, giving it the greatest range of motion of any joint in the body. The shoulder must be mobile enough for the wide range actions of the arms and hands, but stable enough to allow for actions such as lifting, pushing, and pulling. With overuse or repetitive use it can become quite aggravated! Routine massage therapy can help with problematic shoulders.

These are just a couple of the videos I recommend for my clients. There are many, many free options on You Tube, with a variety of very good instructors. If you don't find these to be to your liking, do go and find one who that resonates with you!
